THOMAS DAMBO: THE MAKING OF BIG PETE

In November 2025, a new giant quietly took root in the forests of Charlotte, NC. Meet Big Pete—a wooden troll imagined by Danish artist Thomas Dambo and brought to life by many hands and a lot of heart.

This short film pulls back the curtain on how he was built, why he matters, and the magic that happens when art, community, and nature collide. Thomas Dambo’s work is rooted in sustainability—using recycled, reclaimed, and locally sourced materials to spark wonder while protecting the planet. Big Pete embodies this mission, reminding us how creativity can transform discarded materials into something meaningful. It’s a perfect fit for The River District, a community built around conservation, environmental stewardship, and a deep respect for the land.
